thesis brainstorming again

Also, I'm interested in the environment. I did a book last semester about the flood last march that hit NJ and I enjoyed doing that and this semester I did my first reductive print on the birth of venus but I put her in a landfill with pollution and oil spillage in the water and she had oil on her and was wearing a hospital mask. Maybe I should direct my thesis on the damaging effects we are making on our environment and using sort of a lot of written pieces from seminar in design for inspiration on eco friendly design and design based on nature etc.

Thesis Brainstorming

Communication has always been an interest of mine as well as psychology and sociology. How people communicate with one another and how it's not always necessarily the message sent but the message received. A teacher told us years ago "you are the center of your own universe" because we only see the world from our perspectives. It is sometimes hard to recognize and understand other people's emotions. I always liked learning about how people communicate with one another and I took a media and communications class last fall. I also have considered gender and gender roles since my research in the disciplines was sexuality gender and difference. I honestly am not sure which direction I want to go with. Although I find the golden ratio fascinating I'm not sure if that's where I want to go for my thesis. I NEED SERIOUS HELP.

Design/Thesis

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GoldenRatio.html

This site covers briefly the math origins of the Golden Ratio. This site is a good resource for where the ratio came from and how it can be applied. It's strictly the scientific/mathematic source of the ratio without any theories or anything else connected.

"The Golden Ratio: the story of PHI the world's most fascinating number" By Mario Livio
This book seems like it could potentially be a good source of information to inspire my thesis. I only read the first few pages but it seems that it will cover the origins of phi and then delve some of the fascinating theories with the number and myths attached.

http://www.world-mysteries.com/sci_17.htm

This site has a ton of info on the ratio in art, architecture, the facial grid, in nature etc. Hopefully this is a reliable source of info it seems to have a good bibliography.

New Thesis Idea

I've been looking into the golden ratio and the ideal proportions. The golden ratio has been used in art design architecture and nature. I like the fascination with the idea of perfection and the 'ideal'. I was looking at before and after pictures of weight loss, plastic surgery and photoshop. The idea of 'before and after' I am using for my visual cliche project. I'm not sure yet what I want to compare in the before and after. I explored food sort of poking fun of the before and after concept and not having any changes between the picture or possibly using the advertisement photograph of a big mac and then using an actual picture of a big mac..a difference people already recognize but when compared directly next to one another becomes more powerful and comical. I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to do yet. Here are some images I have been searching for inspiration.

thesis brainstorming

Just brainstorming more on my thesis. Again, content I'm not sure of but the theory of energy not being created or destroyed only displaced really interests me and I think I want to focus more on that than creating visual energy with design. I really like the religious side of this theory. I am not myself a very religious person but I do believe in divine energy and life after death and I think maybe it's something different than we think such as our souls traveling through different energy frequencies and we exist together but in separate frequencies. I have no idea how to represent that in design. As a designer I'm really interested in detail and intricate patterns with a whole bunch of smaller parts making up an amazing whole. Maybe I can create a strong and powerful large image from a ton of smaller parts. I want my piece(s) to have a strong effect both from up close and from a distance. I don't really want to do something 3d I want to stick with 2d. I recently have gotten into print making I'm not sure if that will influence the execution of my thesis but I'm open to it. I don't want to necessarily restrain myself to the computer.
